At a special meeting of the L’Anse Township Planning Commission, on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the L’Anse Township Hall, 126 N Main Street, L’Anse MI 49946, the Planning Commission will (1) hold a public hearing to consider an application/request by Robert and Kimberly Treadeau, as follows:

  1. Change the Zoning Designation of their 80-acre property from Residential to
    Agriculture. The property is located at 16801 Dynamite Hill Road. Legal Description:
    TLA-11 0/3 101&102 Section 11 T50N R33W N ½ of NE ¼.
  2. Change the Zoning Ordinance text to include Barn Venue as a Permitted Use in the
    Agriculture District.

and (2) to consider other Township business that may come before the Planning Commission.

At the public hearing, all interested persons will have the opportunity to comment on the application. Written comments may be submitted to the L’Anse Township Planning Commission at the Township, 126 N Main Street, P.O. Box 82, L’Anse, MI 49946.

Notice of Public Budget Hearing – March 16, 2022 – 3:00 pm

The L’Anse Township Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed township budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the L’Anse Township Hall, 126 N. Main Street.

*The property tax millage rate proposed to be levied to support the proposed budget will be a subject of this hearing.

A copy of the budget is available for public inspection at the L’Anse Township Office, during open office hours.

This notice is posted in compliance with PA 267 of 1976 as amended (Open Meetings Act) MCLA 41.721 (2) (3) and the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

Notice of Adoption – An Ordinance to amend the Township’s Zoning Ordinance regarding Wind Energy Conversion Systems

TOWNSHIP OF L’ANSE

NOTICE OF ADOPTION:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE TOWNSHIP’S ZONING ORDINANCE REGARDING WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEMS

To the residents and property owners of the Township of L’Anse, Baraga County, Michigan, and all other interested persons:

On June 9, 2021, the Township of L’Anse (the “Township”) adopted an Ordinance to Amend the Township’s Zoning Ordinance Regarding Wind Energy Conversion Systems (“Ordinance”). A summary of the Ordinance is provided below. A true copy of the Ordinance, including any exhibits, is available for inspection at the Township Hall, 126 N. Main Street, L’Anse, MI 49946, and may be examined during the Township Hall’s regular business hours. 

Section 1.  Amendment of Section 3.15. This section amends Section 3.15 of the Zoning Ordinance to, among other things, clarify the districts where Large Wind Energy Conversion systems (“LWECS”) are permitted, change the setbacks of LWECS from nonparticipating property lines, specify spacing and density of LWECS’, update noise requirements, require built-in fire detection and suppression systems, provide for waste removal at LWECS sites, and provide for certain decommissioning and complaint resolution requirements.

Section 2.  Amendment of Section 6.03. This section amends Section 6.03 of the Zoning Ordinance to amend subsection (G) to read as follows:

G. LWECS , which shall meet the requirements of Section 3.15 of this Ordinance.

Section 3.  Amendment of Section 10.03. This section amends Section 10.03 of the Zoning Ordinance to amend subsection (G) to remove LWECS’ as a special land use in the Conservation/Recreation Zoning District.

Section 4.  Amendment of Section 11.03. This section amends Section 11.03 of the L’Anse Township Zoning Ordinance to amend subsection (H) under the Forest Resource Zoning District to read as follows:

H. LWECS, which shall meet the requirements of Section 3.15 of this Ordinance.

Section 5.  Validity and Severability.  This section provides that if any portion of the Ordinance is found invalid for any reason, such holding shall not be construed as affecting the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance.

Section 6.  Repealer.  This section provides that any ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the Ordinance are hereby repealed only to the extent necessary to give the Ordinance full force and effect.

Section 7. Effective Date.  This section provides that the Ordinance shall take effect seven days after publication.

Please take notice that a meeting of the L’Anse Township Planning Commission will be held on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Township Hall, 126 N Main Street, L’Anse Michigan. At this meeting, the Planning Commission will consider and hold a public hearing on possible amendments to the L’Anse Township Zoning Ordinance regarding wind energy conversion systems.

The Planning Commission is receiving written comments concerning the proposed amendments at the Township Hall, 126 N Main Street, L’Anse Michigan.  Comments must be received by the Township prior to the start of the public hearing on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.  A complete copy of the proposed amendments is available for inspection at the Township Hall, 126 N Main Street, L’Anse Michigan, and may be examined during the Township’s regular business hours.
